Flitesoft ExpressTM is a flight planning and moving map program which runs on Pocket PC computers like the HP iPAQTM and Dell AXIMTM. Pocket PCs are ideal for pilots because they are small, lightweight, have great sunlight-readable screens, and are easy to yoke mount.
Express is ideal with desktop Flitesoft because
- They share all data and charts
- Flitesoft updates cover both Flitesoft and Express
- Flitesoft and Express provide the same calculated results
The Moving Map in Express works with most GPSs (NMEA 0183), supports all the chart options including Clearance Check, offers both an EFIS arc and HSI, includes great Direct To, Nearest, and Emergency functions, and provides direct access to airport, airspace, weather, terrain, and topographic data.
Many of the charts in Express are in raster (scanned) format and come from Flitesoft (update service required). They are current, work in Express' Moving Map, show with the current TFRs and route overlaid, provide instant access to airport and VOR data, include currency warnings, and are Part 91 legal.
VFR Chart Options
|
Vector charts (computer drawn - like a GPS):
Express' chart provides infinite zoom (1-3000 NM scale), as much detail as you want, clear labels that never overwrite each other, weather graphics, and direct access to waypoint data and flight inputs. |
|
|
Sectional Charts:
Raster scans of current charts |
|
|
Terminal Area Charts:
Raster scans of current charts |
|
|
Clearance Check:
Vector chart providing terrain warnings (can be combined with topography or airways if you wish) |
|
|
Attitude Indicator:
The Attitude Indicator is designed to enhance situational awareness when all other basic instrumentation has failed. This feature is GPS (not gyro) driven and is effective for the average pilot in a pinch. |
|
IFR Chart Options
- Vector charts (computer drawn - like a GPS). Express' chart provides infinite zoom (1-3000 NM scale), as much detail as you want, clear labels that never overwrite each other, weather graphics, and direct access to waypoint data and flight inputs.
- Low enroute charts: Raster scans of current charts
- High enroute charts: Raster scans of current charts
Weather Briefings
Express supports direct dial and Internet DUAT (DTC and CSC) weather briefings and now also supports WxWorx Satellite weather. DTC and CSC are great services to use for preflight weather checks. WxWorx is great for preflight weather checks as well as giving you real time weather on your PDA in flight.
Either process is automatic, adds weather graphics to the Chart, inserts winds aloft in the Flight Log, and provides a route weather report which is concise and readable.
Weather options on the Chart include radar, AIRMETs, METARs, TAFs, PIREPs, wind flags, and temperature/dewpoint spreads.
|
The Chart's Route Line
The route line can be a simple black line, or it can provide a great deal of additional information such as fuel warnings, time into flight, distance into flight, terrain clearance, and proper altitude warnings. The figure shows fuel reserve and exhaustion warnings. |
|
Express provides point-and-click as well as "rubber band" routing. It's easy to add, delete, and insert waypoints as well as to check waypoint data and control flight inputs like altitude, power level, wind conditions, and temperature.
|
Planning on the Flight Log
Waypoints are added to the Flight Log by entering identifiers or searching by airport or city name. The Flight Log makes it easy to build and modify flight plans, check data, and control flight inputs. |

- Vector or raster charts
- Clearance Check terrain warnings
- EFIS arc and HSI display
- Easy-to-use Direct To function
- Convenient Nearest function
- Emergency function shows reachable area, airports, and major roads
Airport Data
The exact airport information in Express and Flitesoft is not available from any other source.
Important notes:
Pocket PCs are also called PDAs. Palm OS devices are also known as PDAs. Pocket PC programs like Flitesoft Express, however, do not run on Palm OS computers.
The price given for Flitesoft Express does not include any hardware. If you currently own the necessary hardware, you're all set. But if you need to purchase any hardware items, we will be happy to assist you.
Flitesoft Express requires a minimum of 32 MB of free storage. Additonal storage space will depend on the data you transfer to express like Sectionals, Approaches, Etc. Additional memory (like an SD card) is fully supported and provides room for the program, charts, approaches, as well as terrain and topography data.
Flitesoft Express matches the version of Flitesoft that you are running. Flitesoft Professional pilots can use piston-powered aircraft in North America with Flitesoft Express. Flitesoft Commercial pilots can use both piston- and turbine-powered aircraft in North America. Flitesoft Express is only available with Flitesoft.
